LOVE & LEGACY

Two lives.
So much love.

Remembering Geula and Elazar Pedhazur — Sabta and Saba — and all they passed on.

Geula and Elazar, a moment together
A moment together, from the family photo album.

IT BEGAN IN 1946

A lifetime,
side by side.

They met in 1946 and married on August 5, 1947. Together, Geula and Elazar built a life that took them from Israel to Australia, New York, and Florida.

Their story lives in the family they raised, the work they shared with the world, and the photographs and songs gathered here.

A VOICE WE CARRY WITH US

Geula Zohar
Pedhazur

FEBRUARY 2, 1928 – APRIL 1, 2018

Geula passed away on April 1, 2018, at the age of 90. Her recordings preserve the voice that brought Israeli folk music to audiences across continents.

To her family, she was Sabta: the singer at life’s celebrations, the familiar smile in the photographs, the one and only. This collection celebrates the joy she gave and invites another generation to listen.

A LIFE OF LEARNING & FAMILY

Elazar J.
Pedhazur

APRIL 3, 1926 – JULY 29, 2015

Elazar passed away on July 29, 2015, at the age of 89. A husband, father, grandfather, educator, and author, he built a life around family, youth work, and scholarship.

After earning his Ph.D. in 1967, he taught at New York University until 1990. His scholarly legacy includes Measurement, Design, and Analysis, coauthored with his daughter, Liora Pedhazur Schmelkin.

In this family’s story, he will always also be Saba — Geula’s partner in the journey.

In family.
In memory.
In every song.
